Jacques Charrier

Jacques Charrier.

Jacques Charrier started his career as an artist in the 50s.
He studied painting and ceramics in the Beaux Arts, together with drama in the Centre d’Art Dramatique de Paris.
He played on stage and in films directed by M Carné, C. Chabrol…….
Then, he created his own production firm and produced a few feature films.
At the beginning of the 80s , he devotes himself to his passion for painting.

Colourful, abstract and very elaborated his work will get rid of artifice and become more intimate, putting in the origins of humanity like his
Hammurabi series of 282 paintings inspired from the most famous legal text of Antiquity.

The painter travels a lot, is very interested in ancient or primitive civilizations and he brings back photos and souvenirs of Africa and the Eathern World.

Every trip back to his studio is the starting point of a new painting adventure.
Discret and spiritual, ridding himself of all superfluous language, Jacques Charrier’s work articulates itself in history and humanism and searches into the
unfathomable intimacy of the human being.
